I got this one from Ben Cox 10 minutes after I realized all the sites were down.

Johanna,

Last night about 1:00 AM CST I was unable to read the website ....

(inserted screencap of error message)

I continue to get that this morning and I tried opening another session.  Here's the pings and nslookup.  I imagine that you already know but just in case.  I figured after 5-6 hours that there is a larger issue.

Regards,
Ben
Hey Johanna, sorry to bother you, but I need help and have a question. I haven't been able to even get the Leatherworker.net site to come up all day. Every time I try it comes up Page cannot be displayed. I even tried to google it and then go in, but still the same thing. So is something going on with the Forum or is it just me having problems? anyway thanks for any help Billy Perdue

Big crash today.....what happened?
Hope it was nothing too serious.

Johanna,

I see the server’s been down for about 24 hours. What’s the forecast for coming back up?

 Dale (Irving) Hietala

Johanna, Good luck. You have my support in what ever needs to be done. If you need some money, please sound off. We'll round up what ever we can. Carl
PS When this gets settled down, I still would like to find out what I am doing wrong with uploading. So, I still would like to call you. The numbers that I have for you are 419-753-2612 and (cell) 937-441-1694. Which do you prefer that I use? I will not call you until you give me a word that it is ok with you to do so. Carl

Wow, Johanna,
That IS as bad as it gets.....guess everything on our site was lost.  Unless there is a backup lurking somewhere.
Good luck with this mess.  I don't envy you.
Dave

have tried to go to the site but it won't pull up. What's up. Anne Newkolde

Ant ETA on getting the leather worker forum up?
DO you need another host? I know some good people I can recommend.
thanks!

Johanna – Is the sill still up?  I have not been able to access it for two days.

If it is are there any specific IE 7.0 Browser security settings other setup requirements needed  to access the site?  I upgraded my internet security program to Norton 360 several days ago.  I was able to access the site for several days after the installation.

Best Wishes

Johanna,

I am missing my Leatherworker fix severely.  I haven't been able to find it yesterday or today.  I am assuming that it is a problem on your end because everything else is working well.  If that is the case, I am not expecting any sort of a reply since you are too busy sweeping the floor to collect all the hair you have pulled out in your frustration with "stupidcomputers" and all that goes with them.  If it is not the case and there is a problem on my end, could you tell me what to do to find you again?  I miss you!!

Hope you had a good holiday and all the best to you and your family in 2008.

Sincerely,  Denise

Hew sweetness, if there is anything I can do…. DO NOT HESITATE….

And hell, if push comes to shove… I don’t thing it will be a big waste starting all over…. We can build it and contribute everything again….

Does this mean the Oak Leaf contest hasn’t been judged yet since there isn’t proof of it?

Be well….

Johanna,
Thank you for the update. I agree with your statement that the site
is well worth it and many of us will be willing to contribute to keep
it going. It has become a valuable resource for us. I would rather pay
monthly dues to Leatherworker.net than to a gaming web site.  Keep
doing the Noble Work.    8-)

I'm sorry to be bothering ya as I'm sure your busy. I was just wondering what was going on with the site. I can't seem to acces the site from work or the house. And I think I'm going thru withdrawls. If ya have time to reply and I understand if ya don't your probaly getting flooded with emails. My email is christis@southwind.net As I'm on duty now and the email adresse that shows up may not work for incoming mail. Thanks Mike (rawhide1)

Johanna...

I am not sure if I ever made a contribution, but I, too, will be happy to contribute to maintain the site.  Let me know.

Hi Johanna,

just wanted to write and give You a whole truck load of "thumbs up" for your effort putting the forum back up again. Missing the forum like crazy (and hoping my user is,t gone *s*)

Have a great evening//Tina

Johanna

Happy new year, even if the moment is not very appropriated.

Never posted in the LW forum at the moment,  but read it daily since september 2006.

i'm not leatherworker, just a beginner and with some translation pbs ( i'm French...)

just few words to tell you my respect for your work with LW site, and as soon as it will be possible i'll contribute ($$) to help.

regards

Philippe , from France

Johanna,

Sorry to trouble you personally, but I'm unable to access Leatherworker.net and Admin@leatherworker doesn't take e-mail.

Whenever I try to open the site I get the message below:

IPS Driver Error

There appears to be an error with the database.
You can try to refresh the page by clicking here
Can you help. please?
Thanks

Hi Johanna,
How is the restoration of our site coming?  Do you think we will get it back?  Hope things aren't too hectic for you.
Have a good weekend.
Dave Theobald

Johanna,
When I go our site, I've just bookmarked the forum....I just went to the home page and discovered your explanation of what happened.....Sorry I sent that other email now, I'm sure you are busy.
Dave

Hi Johanna,
I'm Twin Oaks from the LW.n.  I have a suggestion for the site that may help reduce costs.  Severely limit (avatar only) or eliminate pics hosted on LW.n .  I don't mean to eliminate pics, just stop hosting them and instead use links.  I think all of the few pics I posted were links to Photobucket.com, an image hosting site.   Another forum I'm on uses this policy, and it seems to work wonderfully there.  By using the Image hosting site(s), you can reduce the amount of space you need-  50 bytes for a link VS. up to 1 Meg for a pic.
Note: Photobucket basic accounts are free, and I don't work for them. I'm just a satisfied user tryin' to help out with our LW.n.

My photobucket account name is tyflier_2007 if you want to view some of my pics and confirm my id through leather pic comparison.  (Hmm, I wonder if the FBI ever considered artwork comparisons as a valid tool for ID........?)
Johanna

Thanks for all your work to keep this forum running.  Hope you can get everything straightened out.

Thanks again
RussH

I'm very sorry for the loss. However,  I couldn't agree more, this may just turn out to be a great big bless in disguse. I joined the membership list near Christmas time, and just loved it. I'm willing to pay a membership fee. I sure do appreciate all the hard work you've done putting this together.

Sure it's a great loss, but soon we'll have new site up. Better than before, with a better server too. Oh, a good thought just came to me. Perhaps, it would be good to have some way for members to pay a membership fee. Paypal.com is a great way to do money transfers. It's surprising how many people use that site and already have memberships there too. Like me for example...:)))

Johanna,

I know you have been working hard because now when I try to get on leatherworker, IPS wants to install something and seems quite insistent on it.  What is this thing?  How big is it and do it let it?  I get other IPS forums and they are ok as is.

Thanks, from your computer illiterate and intimidated friend,

Denise

Johanna,

If you inter (leatherworker.net/forum) in a google search you will get around a thousand topic pages if you click on the ( Cached Link for each topic)you will get the page without images.

http://209.85.173.104/search?q=cache:MmuYAL5K_EQJ:www.leatherworker.net/forum/index.php%3Fshowtopic%3D3158%26view%3Dgetlastpost+leatherworker.net/forum&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=940&gl=us

google might be able to assist you in rebuilding the data base if you contact them and then you could get Invision Power to provide links to the images which they still will have.

Feel free to ask me for assistance if needed,

Cyrus AKA (ghstrydr164)

Hello again Johanna, I'm so sorry to bother you again, but I was wondering if you had heard anything about when they may have the Leatherworker forum back up. I as I'm sure a lot of other people are missing it terribly much. It had gotten to be with me, anyway, that the forum was where I was spending most of my computer time, LOL, I'd been looking at the forum so much that I had almost 500 unread emails to catch up on. If you have any information or if you hear anything I for one would certainly appreciate it if you would let me know. On another track now, I trust and hope that you had a fantastic Christmas and New year. Also how is your wrist doing, better I hope. I don't have much feeling in my right hand now due to diabetes nerve damage. I have to be really careful when working with leather to make sure that the tools I'm using stay in the right position, as sometimes they want to turn on me and I can't feel it when they do. Again thanks for any info about the forum getting back up. Your Friend in Leather Billy Perdue

Hi Johanna,
Wow, I am stunned at the loss of the site. I was just working on my new site
and lost six hours of work the other day in the blink of an eye(my own
fault. As utterly peed-off as I was I can only imagine what you've just been
through...
I look forward to the new and improved version!
Thanks for all your hard work,
Matthew "Maxx Empire"

Johanna, I have a friend in CA who runs a HUGE forum. It is absolutely massive.  (It’s the forum for the James Randi Education Foundation – just take a look at their stats!) They’ve had their share of troubles and had to switch servers several times... Terry might be able to give you some suggestions, or you could take a look at the software they run and so on. It’s possible that Terry could give you some advice. If you are interested let me know, and I will contact Terry and try and put you two in touch. Of course I can’t promise ahead for Terry and what he will do, but he is a really nice person and I’m sure could sympathize, and would help if he could.

Best of luck in this – I miss it! I really enjoyed spending a few minutes throughout my working day checking in and seeing what everyone was up to. I was one of the donors, but if you need more help, please let me know and I will see if I can help out.

Johanna:

I know you must be very busy with the current challenges ( J ) over at leatherworker.net and with life in general.

Just a quick note to let you know that my thoughts and prayers are with you at this challenging time.

When LW returns, if there is information posted about how to donate to ensure its financial viability, I will be sure to contribute.

The folks at LW have been a tremendous source of help and inspiration to this newbie, and I’m not willing to give that up without one heck of a fight.

Cheers

Marilyn

Hi Johanna,
Sorry bout the s#$& you're going through. I also belong, til now, to the IILG, but I find your site much more enjoyable and useful than them, and would rather send you a membership fee than to them.
So if that's one of the options you may be considering, I, for one, would not be opposed to it.
Just a thought.

You sound awfully busy, so don't bother replying to me.
You're doing (and have always done) a marvellous job.
In fact, don't waste time reading this e-mail.

Johanna,

Hi, I have been unable to find the website for several days until
today and now it looks like the homepage has changed as well as the
name (IP. BOARD?) and I can no longer log in. What happened?
Thanks,

Johanna, so sorry to bother you again, but I don't know who else to contact. I'm not too much of a Whiz, with a computer to begin with, and no matter what I do I am not able to log on to the Leatherworker.net/forum. I even tried to get listed as a new member. I went to the member list as a guest I reckon, and I'm already listed as a member, but I can't get in no matter what I do. Any help/ instructions on how to get in will be greatly appreciated. One other thing I'm not sure of my password as I didn't really use it much as I had it saved/remembered so that I didn't have to type it in each time. I guess I'll learn to write things down with a pencil on paper now won't I. Anyway thanks for any help you can give me and I look forward to getting back there. Kindest Regards Billy Perdue

Dear Joanna,

My sympathy on the loss of the files on the server. The admin should be more diligent about backing up right before an upgrade - yes?  Please see my old email forwarded below.
Kind Regards,

John English.

Johanna,
Just another note of keepin' it goin'. I have had emails from people I never heard of hoping that it comes back and doing everything from praying to knowing you must be devastated and want me to pass on encouragment. Having the updates on the page is good, and I will keep up the watch on my end.

i feel for you! we had the same problem when we moved our forum. we lost all the pics in posts and still don't have our gallery up and running. our web guy has been too busy to mess with it cause he hates to loose all the images in the gallery but, it's been a year and i'ed rather start fresh and have it operational again!

i am now biting my nails BTW!

i just got an email that my acount is being moved to a new, faster server. i wish they would have let me know before had so i could have backed everything up!

hope to see it back up soon without too much loss!

It's looking better and better, Johanna.  You guys keep up the good work!

Your work is appreciated. . .

Read me later, after things up and running again, and you've had SLEEP.

Thanks so much for the progress reports; it lets us know how much you care about our site and members. I have an additional suggestion for LW.n.   If possible, create an accessible "archive" that's a read only type board.  Have it listed as an alternate site, in case of problems.    If the primary site fails, the back up is still readable for those of us who are trying to learn things, and can act as a message board for communique's like you've posted.  New threads and/or posts should be limited to the Moderators and the SysAdmin only, with a big honkin' banner saying, " If you're reading this, here's the problem."

Just my .02, and again, Thank You and all the good people that are getting the LW.n back online.

Mike DeLoach

We all owe you a lot.  Without you efforts this sharing of experience and ideas would not be possible.   Just wanted to let you know your work is appreciated.

I'm so sorry y'all are having to completely redo everything!  That can't be a fun job.  Good luck!  I hope it turns out OK!

Johanna,
You and your crew are FANTASTIC!!  If it had been me, there would have been problems distinguishing, in the large puddle on the floor, what was the remains of me after my meltdown and what was the 18 1/2 gallons of tears I would have shed.  You just kept at it and got it working again.  The length of time it has taken shows the severity of the crash.  THANK YOU ALL for sticking with it.
Only 17 more sites to go?  My thoughts are with you.  I hope none is as complicated as this one.

Thanks again, and all the best to you.
Denise

PS.  I would offer to help, but you have had enough trouble already.
PPS.  I always worried that I would black out New York when I got on the computer.  I don't think I was on when it crashed, but now I am wondering...
Hi Johanna

First off, You all have a star in the sky for the work you've done/still doing, a HUGE one:-)

When you have time to answer...I'm not a member as it is right now. When the old posts is up again, does it also get the new members from the 27th back again or do we apply again for membership? Maybe post the answer in the forum is the best way to go, I know there must be more people than me that probably wonder how too....

Have an absolute fab evening//Tina

Thank You Johanna, and everyone else involved, for making the world right again.
