Kathy Flanagan (yaklady) carves a  Horse’s Head  (no yaks were harmed during production)

Swivel knife cuts:  taper off all ends, cut eye and nostril lightly.  Do not cut the dotted lines.

Start mane and forelock: bevel cut lines, bevel opposite side of ends of hair, and drag a hair blade over it.

Use smooth pear shader inside ears and nostril.  Round out eyeball, smooth nostril and begin detailing with modeling spoon.

Matt perimeter with textured matting tool.  Redo with beveller if necessary.  Round all edges with spoon.

Put it all together for a complete horse.

Horse Head Tutorial

By Kathy Flanagan

Now you’re ready for a whole herd!

Matt out halos around mane, forelock and behind ear with smooth matting tool before beginning the muscling.  Use figure carving beveller F895 for deeper shadowing, e.g.:  around jaw and on neck.  Do the rest of the details with a spoon.

Bevel cut lines.  Bevel eye and nostril lightly on the inside.
